Wings of Valor, One Month Later
November 18, 2001 - Chevelle

Wings of Valor opened for business on October 16th, just one month ago.  At that time, I had many concerns and trepidations about the whole concept.

I am delighted to tell you that almost all the news is good and positive.  On the down side, Wings of Honor will most likely not be back and Jupes continues to struggle with the weight of real life.  We all wish him and his family well.

On the upside, I am very pleased to inform you that none of my initial concerns have come to pass.  I am delighted with the first month of Wings of Valor.  Your support and appreciation has been overwhelming.  Your conduct on the forum has been exceptional and with the utmost honor and courtesy.

So now what?  There are lots of things that I would like to do make Wings of Valor an even more important resource for the Red Baron community.  I can't do it without your input and your help.

FILE STORAGE
At the moment, there is about 250MB of additional space available on WOV.  Our bandwidth limit is 15GB/month and we haven't even scratched that with out measly 30MB for our first month.  I would like to see WOV host more files, especially those that no longer have websites.  In the past, information about these files has been spotty, requiring the users to experiment and get intimately involved with their computer.   Hopefully, WOV can help reduce the risk when considering patches and add-ons with clear instructions and information.

NEW RED BARON PLAYERS
There are many pressures that put the long term future of our beloved Red Baron game in jeopardy.  We have little control over things like hardware becoming obsolete and incompatible new operating systems.  One thing that we can do is encourage an influx of new and enthusiastic players.  WOV is dedicated to the support of these new players.  Making information available to them, from upgrades to server etiquette, is an important aspect of WOV's mission.  But this information must come from all of you.  Please consider how you can contribute to our future by making this information easy to understand and widely available.

WOV SPONSORED SERVER EVENTS
There are many servers for everyday play.  There are several organized events such as the World League, the Great War and Flanders in Flames.  But there are very few one-time events.  I hope to begin WOV sponsored events that explore various aspects of WWI aviation, combat tactics and Red Baron capabilities.

So this is where we are today.  What are your ideas?  I'd love to hear what you have to say.  The suggestion box in the forum is the best way to let me know what you are thinking.

Salute
